What is the Justice DTS?

The JDTS is a focused school that equips passionate people with the knowledge and opportunity needed to take a long-term stand against human trafficking locally and globally. Students will have the opportunity to learn about and experience ministry in the areas of trafficking prevention, outreach to victims, and recovery for those who have been exploited. This is an incredible opportunity to determine what type of ministry you are called to and how to use your gifts and passions in ministry.

What is a YWAM DTS?

A Discipleship Training School (DTS) is a 5-6 month, hands-on Christian discipleship training program with 3 months of lecture phase followed by 2-3 months of international, cross-cultural outreach. The DTS is a remarkable, transformational journey that gives you the opportunity to fully focus on Jesus, hear His voice, and step into the calling He has for your life.

Part One: Lecture Phase

The first 12 weeks of DTS, the lecture phase, are spent on the campus at YWAM Los Angeles. Students live, study, worship, pray, and work together in community during the lecture phase. Each week focuses on a different area of discipleship teaching.

The JDTS will cover the traditional DTS lecture topics such as The Nature and Character of God, Hearing the Voice of God, Father Heart of God, Effective Evangelism, as well as tying all topics into God’s heart for justice. We have frequent human trafficking workshops throughout our JDTS schedule. We aim to educate students on the issue of human trafficking, some of its various causes, and ministry in this area. We will be discussing and processing the many challenges involved with ministry in human trafficking. Our students will also have the opportunity to serve weekly with our Justice 180 ministries and our local ministry partners in order to aid our efforts in combating trafficking in Los Angeles.

What you will experience during the lecture phase

YWAM LA is an international and multicultural community of staff and students who worship, pray, serve and live life together. In this diversity, a unique classroom and living experience is created where God imparts His heart for the nations to each of us. In this dynamic living and learning environment, a love and appreciation for cultures, races, and peoples of the world will prepare you for a life of service to the nations.

The first phase of your DTS, the lecture phase, is a journey in encountering and knowing God that will forever transform your life.  Speakers from all over the world will bring profound insights into topics such as The Nature and Character of God, Recognizing God’s Voice, The Father Heart of God, Who is the Holy Spirit?, Spiritual Warfare, Intercession, Evangelism, and much more.

Local Ministry

God has placed our campus at the front door of one of the most diverse and international cities in the world, Los Angeles.   Every nation of the world is represented in this urban metropolis. During your lecture phase, you will be given opportunities to reach into the heart of the city with the love of Christ.  Ministry will range from serving the homeless on Skid Row to evangelism on university campuses. God will use you to make a kingdom impact in this city where the need for Jesus is so great.

Part Two: International Outreach

A YWAM Discipleship Training School outreach is a 2-3 month journey into the nations where one continues to know God, but the emphasis is on making Him known. Each international outreach gives students plenty of opportunities to apply the transformational principles learned during the lecture phase. Our DTS outreaches work with long-term initiatives and strategies that God has laid on our hearts. We use YWAM LA’s connections to impact these nations. All outreaches have three components: evangelism, practical ministry, and partnership with local churches and ministries.  Our primary outreach locations are Asia, Africa and Central/South America, however, your outreach could be anywhere in the world!

Outreach is an opportunity for JDTS students to continue receiving discipleship, put into practice all they have learned during lecture phase, as well as see and experience what the issue of trafficking looks like on a global level. We partner with our long term global ministry partners during the outreach phase.  This provides long-term opportunities for our students while introducing them to ministry with prevention to those vulnerable of being trafficked, outreach to victims, and aftercare for those who have been exploited. Outreach locations are announced during the lecture phase.

Apostolic Mandate

Jesus commissioned us as the Body of Christ to disciple the nations. Our call is to train and launch young people into their destinies in every sphere of society in all nations. (Matthew 28:19,20)
