What is the Transformation DTS?

In the TDTS, we focus on gathering and challenging people to worship, listen, and obey God. Students are released and sent out to serve through evangelism, intercession, acts of compassion, and other expressions of God’s heart for the world, possibly even pioneering new ministries.

What is a YWAM DTS?

A Discipleship Training School (DTS) is a 5-6 month, hands-on Christian discipleship training program with 3 months of lecture phase followed by 2-3 months of international, cross-cultural outreach. The DTS is a remarkable, transformational journey that gives you the opportunity to fully focus on Jesus, hear His voice, and step into the calling He has for your life.

Part One: Lecture Phase

The focus of the first 12 weeks of DTS, the lecture phase, is to inspire and cultivate  growth in one’s relationship with God resulting in a Christ-like character based on a solid biblical foundation.   Through the work of the Holy Spirit and the personal application of biblical truth, especially concerning God’s character, the Cross and His empowering grace, transformation takes place. One’s ability to relate to, work with, and learn from people of different cultures and personalities, brings about a deeper perspective of God’s world.  This further equips each student to serve God’s purposes by strengthening a commitment to reach the lost, especially the unreached, to care for the poor, and to influence all areas of society.

The first 12 weeks of the TDTS are spent on the campus at YWAM Los Angeles. Students live, study, worship, pray, and work together in community during the lecture phase.  Each week focuses on a different area of discipleship teaching. Topics may include, but are not limited to: The Nature and Character of God, Hearing God’s Voice, Prayer and Intercession, Father Heart of God, and Effective Evangelism.

What You Will Experience During Your Lecture Phase

YWAM LA is an international and multicultural community of staff and students who worship, pray, serve and live life together. In this diversity, a unique classroom and living experience is created where God imparts His heart for the nations to each of us. In this dynamic living and learning environment, a love and appreciation for cultures, races, and peoples of the world will prepare you for a life of service to the nations.

The first phase of your DTS, the lecture phase, is a journey in encountering and knowing God that will forever transform your life.  Speakers from all over the world will bring profound insights into topics such as The Nature and Character of God, Recognizing God’s Voice, The Father Heart of God, Who is the Holy Spirit?, Spiritual Warfare, Intercession, Evangelism, and much more.

Local Ministry

God has placed our campus at the front door of one of the most diverse and international cities in the world, Los Angeles.   Every nation of the world is represented in this urban metropolis. During your lecture phase, you will be given opportunities to reach into the heart of the city with the love of Christ.  Ministry will range from serving the homeless on Skid Row to evangelism on university campuses. God will use you to make a kingdom impact in this city where the need for Jesus is so great.

Part Two: International Outreach

A YWAM Discipleship Training School outreach is a 2-3 month journey into the nations where one continues to know God but the emphasis is on making Him known. Each international outreach gives students plenty of opportunities to apply the transformational principles learned during the lecture phase.

Our DTS outreaches work with long-term initiatives and strategies that God has laid on our hearts. We use YWAM LA’s connections to impact these nations. All outreaches have three components: evangelism, practical ministry and partnership with local churches and ministries.  Our primary outreach locations are Asia, Africa and Central/South America however, your outreach could be anywhere in the world!   Outreaches are announced during the lecture phase.
