What is the Chronological School of Biblical Studies?

God can use you to impact the nations through His Word! The CSBS will prepare you with the tools to bring God’s Word to others. First, you will develop your own convictions regarding God’s holiness, faithfulness, and mercy as you study His words and His acts throughout the history of humankind. Then, you will be able to share and explain your faith to others, utilizing the stories of the people and events in the Bible.

What is a YWAM Secondary School?

If you have completed a Discipleship Training School (DTS) and want to continue to be trained, secondary schools are an awesome way to go deeper into more specialized topics. There are numerous opportunities and different types of secondary schools in YWAM globally. Here at YWAM LA, we offer several secondary schools that build upon the foundation laid during your DTS, to equip you for effective ministry and missions.

What is the Chronological School of Biblical Studies? (CSBS)

The CSBS is a 9 month school in which students discover, in chronological order, the story of God’s love for His people. Students will dive in deep by studying all 66 books of the Bible. They will learn how to teach and transform nations by going on local outreaches and will have the option to go on an international outreach at the end of their school.

During the school, students survey each book of the Bible and discover the big picture, while also digging into the details, paragraph by paragraph. We place an emphasis on understanding the cultural and historic background of each author and original reader of each book. In the CSBS, we also consider where each book fits into the big picture of the Gospel story. Then, the student can interpret Scripture with the mindset of the original reader. Finally, that student can take those truths that transcend time and culture, and apply them to their own lives.

As a foundation, CSBS gives its students hands-on instruction in the principles of observation, interpretation, and application. CSBS staff will meet weekly with the students to aid in their personal growth, understanding of Scripture, and application of the inductive method.

Study Method

We use the basic flow chart of the “Inductive Study Method”. You can use this flow chart to study any book of the Bible in context. Once you have studied the history and culture of the author of each book, and the people whom the Holy Spirit intended to reach, then you can begin the study “process”.

  • OBSERVE the text until you “see” the clear meaning of the words.
  • INTERPRET the most likely message to the ORIGINAL Readers (not to you).
  • APPLY those principles in YOUR life and culture today.

This inductive process uses the commonly accepted historical facts surrounding each book of the Bible in order for you to develop your own well-informed conclusions regarding the most likely meaning of Biblical passages. It is a “filter” that you can confidently use for the rest of your life.  Thus, community outreach is woven into the school schedule and is mandatory during the school and optional after the school.

Our goals are to train Christians in the Word of God and to be a multiplier for missions following Paul’s mandate in 2 Timothy 2:2; “And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses, entrust to reliable men who will also be qualified to teach others.”   Our goal is also to see Christians know God’s Word for themselves and to bring God’s Word to others.

What you will experience during the CSBS

Community

YWAM LA is an international and multicultural community of staff and students who worship, pray, serve and live life together. In this diversity, a unique classroom and living experience is created where God imparts His heart for the nations to each of us. In this dynamic living and learning environment, a love and appreciation for cultures, races, and peoples of the world will prepare you for a life of service to the nations.

Teaching

Local Ministry

Our main goal for CSBS outreach is to teach. One focus is to equip pastors and church leaders to be evangelists, teachers, preachers, and disciplers. On outreach, we have seen the lost encounter our Lord and it is such a blessing to be a part of long term evangelism and discipleship all through the nations.

We believe that CSBS breeds outreach. After spending nine months getting to know God through the Word, it ends with absolute clarity. “Go!!!”

We also desire to come alongside the things that God is doing in our students. We desire to be a part of the long term heart that you have for missions. We want to partner with you in reaching the lost and discipling the nations. Bible training is so key to finding your foundation for a life of ministry.
