School of Ministry Development Communications
What is the School of Ministry Development?
The SOMD is a 12 week school designed to sharpen leadership skills and develop effective personal ministry. Spiritual leadership and life-long ministry both require that we take on the nature of Jesus and learn from Him, a humble servant. We simply must set our sights high and look into the radical leadership of Jesus. Students will dive into areas such as Personal Growth and Character Development, Understanding Ministry, Spiritual Leadership, Pioneering, Project Planning and Implementation, Worldview, Faith and Finances, and more. Each topic will have an emphasis on the scriptures as a point of reference for everything we do.
Coming This Fall!
Arrival: September 23th, 2017.
Departure: December 17th, 2017.
With optional outreach.

Students will live in community on our YWAM LA campus as well as venturing out to reach deep into the heart of the city through ministry, outreach and various activities designed to immerse them into this vast array of urban lifestyle, culture and art. The SOMD places a strong emphasis on strengthening the individual for the long haul of effective ministry. We invite you to come and make the SOMD part of your journey as you go deeper in your relationship with God.
What you will experience during the SOMD
YWAM LA is an international and multicultural community of staff and students who worship, pray, serve and live life together. In this diversity, a unique classroom and living experience is created where God imparts His heart for the nations to each of us.In this dynamic living and learning environment, a love and appreciation for cultures, races, and peoples of the world will prepare you for a life of service to the nations.
The School of Ministry Development focuses on seeing growth in character, practical skills, and servant leadership. You will learn to identify and appreciate the contributions of your unique personality and natural abilities by using the Myers-Briggs Personality Indicator and the Strengthsfinder 2.0. You will also learn to identify and articulate your own core values.
Students will receive practical guidelines for long term success in ministry by looking at their own personal foundations, habits and character, and will design and have the opportunity to implement a plan for starting a new ministry.
God has placed our campus at the front door of one of the most diverse and international cities in the world, Los Angeles.Every nation of the world is represented in this urban metropolis.During the SOMD, you will be given opportunities to reach into the heart of the city with the love of Christ.Ministry will range from serving the homeless on Skid Row to evangelism on university campuses.God will use you to make a kingdom impact in this city where the need for Jesus is so great.

What is YWAM?
Meet the Leader
Greetings friends! I did my DTS in Kona, Hawaii and my outreach to Thailand! God sent me directly to L.A. for a SOMD and I have been on staff and carried a leadership role from that point on. My first assignment here at YWAM Los Angeles was to plan a massive event for our 25th anniversary. I had absolutely no experience in event planning. Welcome to YWAM! I have been on this campus and in leadership for 15 years. I earned my Bachelors Degree at Vanguard University in Psychology and completed a masters level curriculum with DeVos Urban Leadership Initiative. My passion has been working with the broken and lost in an large urban context. Cities bring me to life! The first 9 years of ministry were spent pioneering several ministries here in Los Angeles such as working in Juvenile Hall, within the Public School System, and in partnership with Los Angeles Police Department’s (LAPD) Jeopardy Program. In more recent years, my focus has shifted to leadership development. Leadership and mentoring are easily my favorite topics, other than the Bible, of course! I have a heart to walk alongside young leaders, serving and empowering them for life and ministry.
