“For as high as the heavens are above the earth,so great is his /checed/ toward those who fear him;” Psalms 103:11
This might sound a little odd but hear me out. Knowing where you are is the one most important thing to know when you’re trying to figure out how to get to where you want to go. In the same way, learning about what you have is very important if you ever want to benefit from it and/or use it.
So maybe, understanding a little more about God’s love may unlock one thing or two in our journey towards purpose.
Recently while reading Psalms 103:11, I got stuck on the expression “steadfast love”, that can also be understood as “strong love”, “faithful love”, “constant love”, “unshakable love”, “merciful love”. But still not satisfied I had to dig a little deeper. I took a look into the original text and found the word “checed”.
In Exodus 34:6-7 God uses the word “checed” describing himself to Moses: “The Lord passed before him and proclaimed, “The Lord, the Lord, a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in “chesed” and faithfulness, keeping “chesed” for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, but who will by no means clear the guilty; (…)”
I realized that this is not about any common love, but it unfolds and shows a much deeper meaning. And it amazes me to see this word being used by God to humankind.
A love as high as the heavens are above the earth, a checed love.
Possibly indescribable, a love beyond anything we can imagine. A love measuring up to the size of the One that allows us to be found by this grace.
The focus is Him. Always Him! From a God so great a love as great. And thanks to Himself we are target of this almost-too-good-to-be-true kind of love. Allow yourself today, to be filled with God’s checed!
